Installation Instructions

It is easy to install your new Finecraft™ wood shutters. Just follow the simple steps we have outlined in this guide. We recommend going through each section in sequence before you actually start installation.

Before beginning we recommend that you have with you the following tools:

  • A high quality steel tape measure, cloth tapes are not accurate.
  • A 9.6 volt power drill, with a spare back up battery
  • A Robertson 3" long # 6 drill bit.
  • A Robertson 3" long # 8 drill bit
  • A pencil for mounting markings

We recommend that you please open all boxes from the centre flap and remove panels top first, then followed by bottom.
Do not open boxes from ends and pull panels out as they will damage.

ADJUSTABLE HANGING STRIP

STEP # 1 - DETERMINING THE MOUNTING POSITION OF EACH PANEL Fincraft™ Custom Shutters have a unique marking system to assist you in installing your order. The top of every panel will be marked with the order information. The order information includes the following information, reading from left to right, the last 3 digits of the order, line number and hinge configuration. On double hung sets, the top set will have a Tnext to the hinge configuration and the bottom set will have a B next to the hinge configuration.

STEP # 2 - REMOVE ALL HARDWARE FROM APPROPRIATELY LABELED BOX One of your received Finecraft™ boxes will be marked "HARDWARE" at the end of the box. Remove the knotted bag of shims, magnets, magnet plates, magnet screws and mounting screws. According to the number of panels for each window, distribute the hardware accordingly. Use the following legend as a guide to help determine proper quantities:

STEP # 3 - INSIDE MOUNTS

  • Place the panel and the hanging strip into the opening, allowing for the barrel of the hinge to project slightly, and mark with a pencil the rear of the hanging strip for proper depth placement.
  • Remove the hinge pins and hand mount the hanging strip at the premarked depth and mark for predrilling of the strip (factory will pre-drill holes in hanging strip).

Warning: Hanging Strips and Light Stops may crack if not pre-drilled before mounting.

  • After pre-drilling, secure the hanging strip to the mounting surface at the pre-marked depth.
  • Hold the panel in place and re-insert the hinge pin.
  • Repeat this procedure until all panels are hung.
  • Close the panels to check that they meet in the centre

Warning: Use hand tools only when making all adjustments, no power tools

  • If closure is to tight or loose, loosen the screws and adjust all panels evenly in the necessary direction. Adjust for height then width in the same opening.
  • If side adjustments are necessary, loosen the screws on the routed section of the hinge and move from side to side to the desired location.
  • Repeat this procedure until all panels are at desired closure
  • Light stops and magnets can now be installed.

STANDARD PANELS

STEP # 1 - WITHOUT FRAME

  • Place the panel into the opening of the window and use the shims provided for accurate spacing.
  • Once you have determined that the spacing is correct, open centre leaf of the hinge and drill ony one screw into the top hinge. Repeat this procedure with all remaing hinges.
  • Close panel to ensure positioning is correct. If so, remove shims and drill in the remaining screws.
  • Repeat this procedure with all panels before proceeding with magnets and magnet plate installation.
  • Once all panels are secure in window, magnets and plates can be installed.
  • Begin by attaching all plates to the magnets. Place magnet on the ledge, and close the panel to measure where panel touches magnet.

STEP # 2 - WITH FRAME

  • Included with your packing slip is a diagram labelling and indentifying each frame.
  • Lay frame on the floor, face down, and insert the provided bow-tie joints into each corner.
  • Raise the entire frame, place into position and drill one screw half way into the top part of the frame. Confirm that the frame is indeed in the correct position and screw in the remaining screws. DO NOT PLUG THE HOLES OF THE FRAME UNTIL ALL PANELS ARE INSTALLED.
  • For panel installation please refer to "Without Frame" installation.
